Top 5 Tips for Maintaining the Tires of Your Vehicle in Great Shape

January 28th, 2013

Driving your vehicle cautiously by making sure that you never over accelerate, brake really hard, and take sharp turns around the corners can be a great way to increase the lifespan of your vehicle’s tires. Apart from these methods, there are many other ways in which, you can maintain your tires in perfect condition for a long time, and we are discussing about the same in the following sections; read through.

Here are top 5 tips to maintain your car tires in great condition for a longer duration of time.

  • Maintaining Accurate Tire Pressure Consistently

Make sure that you constantly ensure that your tires are neither over-inflated nor under-inflated. In general, under-inflated tires lead to higher rubber flexing, rise in the operating temperature, which often decrease the lifespan of the tire considerably. The deterioration on the shoulder, or edge of your vehicle tire would increase greatly, and even suspension of the vehicle could be damaged when driving above a road pothole with a tire that is considerably under-inflated.

Furthermore, under-inflation leads to poor fuel efficiency, since enhanced rolling resistance forces the vehicle’s engine to work harder, and in turn suck more fuel. On the other hand, over-inflation of the tire is equally undesirable as it could increase the friction in the middle of a tire tread, which is the region for shielding the tire against any form of collision damage.

To discover the suggested tire pressure, verify the owners’ manual provided by your vehicle manufacturer, and ensure that you maintain the same pressure always.

Most of the luxury-class vehicles come with tire-pressure monitoring systems, and it’s extremely easy to keep the tire pressure under check, while in other cases, it’s highly recommended to get the air pressure of the tires checked on a weekly basis.

  • Tire Balance and Alignment

Every time your vehicle tire is repaired, ensure that it is perfectly balanced when it is remounted on your vehicle. If you fail to maintain the perfect balance, it could lead to vibrations, intensifying tire wear, denting suspension, and eventually resulting in driver fatigue.

Precise alignment of the tires is highly essential to have the vehicle suspension, steering, and wheel components all operating in perfect harmony to accomplish great performance.

Wheel alignment is necessary on a regular basis, so it’d always recommended getting the alignment checked on yearly basis.

  • Regular Inspection

Once in a month at least, a careful visual inspection, which really doesn’t a lot of time or money; this is extremely necessary to preserve your vehicle tires in a perfect working condition. Verify the depth of tread; usually, most of the tires possess a tread wear pointer integrated in them.

Also, check the tires for any strange lumps, or bulges as all these are indications of any possible internal damage. Get rid of stones or any others things that are struck in the tread of your tire.

Remember, small issues can turn into bigger problems, and ultimately force you to replace the tires very quickly.

  • Carrying out Timely Repairs

Always make sure that you don’t risk yourself driving on a vehicle tire that is evidently losing its pressure. You must immediately take your vehicle to any nearby specialist, who will do a thorough inspection of the tire, and assess whether it can be restored, or it should be replaced.

If you drive on a totally flat tire even for a very short distance, it will certainly spoil the tire beyond repairable condition. Never attempt to repair your car tire on your own unless you are trained to do so; otherwise it’d certainly back-fire. And, if your intention was to save money, then you’d eventually end up losing more money on heavy repairs or outright replacement.

Car Tires in Perfect Condition

  • Ensuring Smooth Tire Rotation

It is a known fact that the total weight of any vehicle for that matter is not equally distributed on all the tires. By frequently rotating the vehicle tires, their standard assured lifespan will be extended and irregular vehicle tire wear can be prevented.

If you follow all the aforementioned tips thoroughly, then you can rest assured that your vehicle tires will be maintained in perfect working condition for an extended period of time.

Of course, this list isn’t exhaustive by any means, and you ought to take all round care of your vehicle, and its tires. And, we’d consider adding more tips to this list in future, when we find any other worthy points. If you have any ideas that you’d like us to add to this list, don’t hesitate to drop in your comments.

The Many and Exciting Uses of Portable Storage

December 25th, 2012

One of the many reasons so many people have decided to switch from traditional storage to portable storage is because of the flexibility it offers. You are able to access the things you cherish most, without the hassle of needing to find a place for them in your house or being required to drive to a completely different location. Portable storage units can still be used to offer you the same benefits of traditional storage units, such as: keep your belongings dry, clean and safe from various forms of weather that may cause them damage if they were to be left uncovered outdoors.

Today we are going to talk about a few exciting storage options that are going to give you a bit more room to work with inside your house or your garage. Clutter isn’t exactly something any of us are fond of and sometimes you just need a bit more space to store everything that you care about most.

Store Your Plants in a Portable Green House

Are you a plant lover but don’t have enough space inside your home for all of your favorites, or maybe you are looking to invest in some more ‘green’ to add to your property? If so, you may want to look into purchasing a portable green house. These units work wonders for your plants even during the cold periods of the year so you won’t have to feel guilty about putting them outside your home.

A New Hang-Out Spot

While a lot of people don’t even realize this is an option; portable storage buildings can be used as a place to hang out when you don’t feel like staying inside the house. Maybe you want to have a few extra people over but don’t have enough rooms for everyone. Why not get a large enough storage space such as the ShelterLogic Barn Style Garage Canopy so you can  not only store your car but it can double as a fun hangout spot during those summer nights when you are hanging out by the pool or the bonfire? Place a portable television inside, a portable heater and you’re all set to go. This way, your guests are going to have many options and no one is going to feel crammed either inside or out.

A Place for Your Dog and Other Ideas

If you’ve never really been a huge fan of dog houses and would like not only a place where your little guy/gal can stay comfortable when they are in the yard but also storage for other items; then a portable mini-garage or shed may be just what you’re looking for. You can store some of your most important tools, boxes or even your bikes while also giving Fido a place to go.

Another pretty neat idea is to store most of your pet supplies inside because sometimes there just isn’t enough space in the house and then when it’s time to take him or her for a walk; you don’t have to go searching for the leash or those doggies bags because they’ll always be handy. Makes cleaning up around the yard easier, too.

Spoilt for Choices: Take Your Car The Luxury Way!

December 24th, 2012

When it comes to having luxury all the way, the perspective, outlook and requirements solely depend on the kind of money one can spend. While some have their toilet seats covered in gold, some invest and save. However, a select few car and speed lovers would happily invest the money in the cars they wanting their collection, which will make people’s eyes somersault in the sockets. The car is more of a personal statement of the luxury their money can buy and the things they want to see as a part of the car, which is an extension of their personalities. Every day, innovations are coming up when it comes to making your car a personal luxury statement.

There are no limits to luxury

When you think of what you can do to make your car a true luxury, there are really no limits to your flight of thought. Companies and manufacturers are making smarter, faster and sophisticated cars that are changing the way we perceive and view a luxury car. From being just something that was faster than other moving vehicles on the road, luxury has gone on to define the very essence of being a person who as the guts to splurge and afford the best in the market. Car manufacturers today are giving customized services to people who want them.

As a buyer, ask the question “What can you get?”

When you have the money, you can get what you want. Manufacturers are willing to provide anything you want in your car, as long as you can pay the price. As far as luxury is concerned, manufacturers are giving away money and experimenting with what luxury any person could want. In one such study, Toyota gave money to their executives and told them to decide and pick the luxury feature they would want in their Lexus. It was surprising to note that how simple things, like a hook to hang the suit on, defined luxury for some, while some others wanted a more elaborate, sophisticated stereo fitted into their vehicle. Take the manufacturer into confidence and ask them the various options up for grabs. Choose from a wide range and see your vehicle become the best luxury car on the roads.

What are some of the luxury features available?

Now that we are discussing the topic, there are some outrageous features that manufacturers are offering to their customers these days. These offerings are changing each day and redefining the way people perceive the “car”.

  • Precious metal studded steering wheels
  • Seats covered in gold covers
  • Cars with Teak Decks
  • Dash and big speakers that make your car a good disco
  • Glass holder and champagne cooler
  • Wireless display on the car windshield and touch screen to control the car features

The rich are redefining luxury and today you can get what you want if you have the dough to spend. Many features are a streak of creativity, imagination well, necessity. You can have all luxury at your service and yet be nice to the environment. Efficient, eco-friendly and smarter fuel cars are being developed and brought to the people and redefining luxury with a conscious.

Say Goodbye to Unnecessary Car Damages

December 23rd, 2012

Many of us have cars and for many, these vehicles are like our lifeline. They get us to and from work; keep us in contact with those relatives that may not exactly live right around the corner. They aren’t a luxury, they are a necessity and without them we would be completely lost. We have talked to many of our visitors lately about what types of cars they have and such and have discovered that a huge handful of you have cars that aren’t covered. It got us to thinking; just how many people probably simply aren’t aware of how beneficial covering ones car is. So, here are a few fairly basic reasons you should cover that baby up if you haven’t done so already.

The Sun Doesn’t Always Play Nice

While it may be just fine for your car to get a bit of sun on a regular basis, having it sit out in the heat for extended periods of time can cause some pretty nasty damages that proper cover can prevent. For one thing, your paint is going to oxidize from extended exposure of the suns’ rays and eventually begin to peal; losing that amazing look you worked so hard to obtain and maintain. If your paint gets to a point where it is no longer covering the metal below, this can lead to rust if left unfixed.

Outside Temperatures and Weather Can Be Pretty Drastic

The great thing about having your vehicle in a garage, for example, is the fact that the temperatures aren’t typically going to drop as low as they will outside. You car isn’t going to be exposed to the large amounts of moisture from rain and snow that it would if it were outside completely unprotected.

Be Cautious When it Comes to Morning Frost

Moisture is a tricky bugger to have to deal with. When temperatures drop below freezing, this can leave your car covered in ice. If it gets cold enough outside and your car has not been turned on or moved in a while, you may wake up to a surprise in the morning before work; literally not being able to move your handles to open your doors or roll down your car’s windows. Luckily, with a bit of heat, you can easily defrost your car but the issue here is many people do not take the time to warm up their cars and they will tug on the door handles or activate their windows before they are ready. As you can probably imagine, this does not always go over well. Our cars may be built tough, but they can only handle so much.

Damage Doesn’t Always Occur Overnight; It Can Add Up Over the Life of Your Car

Over time, temperature variations are going to cause your window seals and other rubber garments of your car to crack. As you can probably tell, your car is going to age much quicker and need maintenance repairs more regularly which isn’t exactly going to increase the size of your wallet.

How to Select the Proper Car Insurance

December 16th, 2012

Insurance is one of the trickiest purchases you are ever going to make; especially when it comes to car insurance. While you may think you trust your driving and that luck is in your favor because it has been so far; going without car insurance is a major risk. These days, there are so many different options to choose from, no matter your budget so please do yourself the favor and read this article. The last thing we want is to hear any more stories from our visitors about how they wish they would have listened to our advice. Your life and future are on the line and having the right car insurance is an important part of life.

Picking the Company Best for You

Before you can choose the right policy for your unique needs, you need to choose a company that you know you can trust. Start by checking with the BBB to compare different companies. Check out their policies and read the fine print. What kinds of things do they cover? How is their customer service and ratings? These are all things that are going to give you insight about each company. Do not simply think that the more money you spend, the more you are getting because this is not always the case. Another great place to ask for advice is your favorite body shop because they deal with a lot of people and know what they are talking about since they talk to insurers in a unique way.

Talk to a Variety of Agents

Once you have a good idea which direction you’d like to go, set up appointments with agents from a variety of companies. The great thing about talking to an agent is that they have the drive to make you happy and this means making adjustments in order to get your business. When you call companies and set up your insurance directly, those people talk to so many people and no one has a face. Going in and sitting with an agent is going to give that personal factor which gives you a great advantage.

A Few Types to Think About

There is liability, collision and comprehensive coverage. Liability covers accidents that you have caused, meaning paying for property damage, injury to another person or another vehicle but not your own. Collision coverage is going to cover repairs that may be required after an accident as long as you go to approved shops. Comprehensive coverage covers all of the above and more including theft, vandalism, damage caused by the elements. Make sure you talk to your agency and see what types of things they cover and do not cover.

If your car is not paid off, you are going to need to talk to your lender because there are going to be specific requirements in order for you to be in good standing with your lender. Many times, you are required to have comprehensive and collision in order to make them happy.

Surprising Reasons Why Purchasing a New Car Might Be Cheaper Than Used

December 6th, 2012

In uncertain economic times, a car is a big expense. If you’re looking into buying a car, chances are you’re looking at trying to save as much money as possible on this big cost. While it used to be the case that used cars were always cheaper than new ones, you might be surprised to see that this is no longer the case. Below are three reasons why purchasing a new car might actually be cheaper than buying a used car.

Think About Supply and Demand

Especially during an economic situation such as the one we’re in now, people try to save money wherever they can. Because a car is such a big expense, many people who need to buy a new car automatically assume that buying used will save them money. As more people assume that used cars are cheaper, the demand for used cars increases. Because the demand increases, the prices can be marked up. As fewer people are buying new cars, now is an ideal time to go against the current and look into the prices of new cars.

Used Cars are Now More Likely to Hold Their Value

Cars are increasingly able to drive more than 150,000km and even 200,00km in their lifetime, so used cars with a bit of mileage are more likely to retain their value. Ideas regarding depreciation are changing as the average life span of a car increases. Especially if a used car is only one year old and doesn’t have a lot of mileage, chances are you won’t save a huge amount.

Don’t Forget About Interest and Financing Costs

Even though the price tag on a new car might still be higher than on a used car, you also have to take interest, financing and deals into consideration. Lots of dealerships offer incentives to buy new cars, as they don’t want old models stuck on their lot for months at a time. It’s not unheard of to get a new car with 0% financing! Even dealerships that don’t offer this, it’s common to get very low financing rates of only 1% or 2%. Don’t just consider the base price, but also be sure to look at the length of the loan and the interest rate you’ll be paying. While buying a used car can still be cheaper than buying a new car, now is as great a time as any to look into buying a new car. In times of economic uncertainty, it might be in your best interest to go against the crowd and head to a dealership instead of toward Craigslist postings.

Five Largest Scams to Watch Out for When Buying Used

December 6th, 2012

The Internet abounds in nightmare stories about used cars. The smooth-driving, beautiful car you just bought turns out to be stolen and to have hidden damages. The car that cost hundreds initially later costs many thousands. Here’s a five part checklist to go over before paying for a used car.

Check the Vehicle

Always have your vehicle inspected by a neutral mechanic. Unknown cars from individual or commercial vendors are never trustworthy. It’s easy to patch up damage and make a very damaged car look almost flawless. The one hundred dollars you spend for an inspection can save you thousands of dollars down the road. If a vendor is hesitant to allow the inspection, leave immediately.

Check the Title

A title-washed vehicle is one that’s been through a bad accident, a theft, or a natural disaster but has had its status erased in the records. These vehicles have been recovered and repaired; they may look impeccable inside and out. Despite appearances however, they’ve been damaged and often need costly repairs later on. After a car is wrecked or stolen, its title must report its damages. The vehicles usually fetch a much lower market price than similar, unscathed models. Scammers, however, can avoid regulations and “wash” the title to make the vehicle seem better than it is and up the re-sale price. Once you buy this car, you take all responsibility for the damages that the vendor failed to report. To avoid purchasing a title-washed vehicle, find a reliable vehicle history from sources such as AutoCheck or CarFax.

Check the Cost

Less conscientious vendors often take advantage of buyers’ need for monthly payment plans. On paper, these plans look like an easy way to settle vehicle debt. However, remember that the length of the payments and interest – combined with the size of the down payment – can make a car far more expensive than its original price tag. Be scrupulous with your calculations and make sure you’re not paying dealers exorbitantly for your monthly plan.

Check the Bill

Car dealerships are notorious for tacking undefined administrative fees to invoices. In some places, laws are in place to keep all fees rolled up into the price tag. In other places, dealers have free rein to charge what they’d like. Look over your bill carefully and feel confident in refusing to pay hundreds of dollars in greedy administrative fees.

Check the Warranty

Dealerships love to sell almost useless warranties. Always read the fine print; find out what the warranty covers and what it restricts. If the terms are too tight to be of any use, pass up the option. Never feel pressured to pay for extended warranty; it isn’t mandatory. Overall, remember to stay skeptical to avoid scams. Be smart and always do your research before you buy a vehicle. Happy Shopping!

Aliens, Ambulances and Autobots: The Most Iconic Cars in Popular Culture

December 6th, 2012

After your home, your car is likely to be the biggest purchase of your life. Some automobiles are so iconic that they have forever engrained themselves in the popular culture zeitgeist. The decisions which go into choosing our car purchase can vary in the extreme, with some people, collectors, more specifically, looking to the most popular vehicles in world pop culture.

These cars combine classic designs with an unprecedented popularity which lasts throughout the ages, infiltrating nearly every area of popular culture. Toys and models of cars are commonplace, with collectors eagerly snapping up their favourite models as soon as they go on sale, but only a select few have broken through the barrier which gives these automobiles a distinctive personality. These are not merely cars, they are icons. They are characters themselves which are even better known than their supporting characters in some cases. Classic designs resonate through the ages, with sponsorship deals to get company model designs into new media now commonplace.

Choosing your new car based upon popular culture is obviously a niche market and not for everyone. Purchasing a vehicle is an extremely big decision for many, and serious though needs to be put into every aspect.

The Weird and Wonderful 80s

Unusual build have often caught the public’s imagination, with the 1980’s in particular introducing all sorts of weird and wonderful designs to our screens.

Where you’re going, you’re probably going to need roads; sadly all DeLorean’s in the real world are distinctly of the non-flying variety. Made famous thanks to its use in the hit sci-fi film ‘Back To The Future’ and its innovative and unusual door design, the vertically opening doors made the DeLorean DMC-12 an extremely distinctive model and one of the most recognised cars in the world. An extremely short production period means that the DeLorean DMC-12 is now extremely rare, with just over 6,000 estimated to still be in circulation. Although the DeLorean was only in production from January 1981 until late the next year, the popularity and resonating image of the car goes to show that classic designs last through the ages, even if there is limited availability. Those who now own these collector’s items can often make decent money showcasing their cars at fairs and specialist shows.

The Miller-Meteor 1959 Cadillac is surely best known for the hit action-comedy film Ghostbusters. Repainted and rebranded with flashing emergency lights and the iconic Ghostbusters logo, this Cadillac became known worldwide with the moniker ‘Ecto-1’. The unusual ambulance-hearse combination loaded with additional decorations made for a visually striking appearance, with an extremely distinctive siren. While the Cadillac is obviously one of the most well-known luxury motors of the modern age, not many have been able to pull off such a garish and unusual look as the Ecto-1. Along with the DeLorean, it goes to show that innovation in design and unusual qualities can often make for a popular and iconic legend.

TV Takes Over

The 1982 Pontiac Trans-Am is undoubtedly best known for the crime fighting, artificially intelligent model in the hit TV drama ‘Knight Rider’. Arguably the best case for a car becoming more famous than its supporting cast – does anyone really remember anything about David Hasselhoff’s character? The artificially intelligent Pontiac was the true star of the show, with its flashing red light proving that even the smallest details can enhance a truly great design.

Another simple yet classic design ensured the 1983 GMC Vandura became one of the most recognised vans in history. A stylish red stripe and rooftop spoiler made the A-Team’s vehicle of choice instantly recognisable, without being overly garnished or obvious. Simple designs can often win over the public if true quality of the build shines through.

Alien Automobiles

Who would have thought that a truck could become one of the most famous military leaders in the world? The success of the Transformers franchise skyrocketed with the release of the 2007 Hollywood blockbuster, which has gone on to spawn two multi-million sequels so far. The actual truck has varied from cartoon, movies, and video game, but the endearing quality shows that character shines through in any format. Long nose peterbilts, fire trucks and Cab Over Engine are just three of the most popular designs which the transforming robotic warrior made popular through various mediums.

General Motors signed an exclusive deal to get their cars featured in the Transformers movies, which proved to be a shrewd move as their vehicles were propelled onto multimedia worldwide, with tie-in video games and Hasbro’s wide range of toys proving to be a lucrative market.

Sci-fi has often been a big influence for propelling cars into the public limelight, with the Doctor Who spin off ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’ making the Japanese  Emerald Green Nissan Figaro a British icon. This specialist Nissan model has become a collector’s dream in no small part due to its high profile placement on such a popular show.

The new Nissan Navara comes with DVD movie playback which allows passengers to enjoy classic pop culture television and movies whilst you are on the move. Who knows; maybe a future project will feature the Navara itself!

What are the Major Causes of Road Accidents?

December 6th, 2012

Over the past 20 years the number of drivers has increased, this has resulted in the number road traffic accidents increasing.

There are a number of reasons why road accidents happen.

This article will look at some of the causes of road traffic accidents.

Speeding

This is one of the major reasons for accidents on our roads today; most people think that because they have been driving for a long time they think that they know better than other road users.

Most Speeding drivers will sometimes traveling between 10 to 30 mph above the speed limit.

Distracted Driving

Every year local councils run campaigns concerning the dangers of driving whilst distracted.

However this is still a major cause of road accidents in the United Kingdom.

Drivers using their mobile phones whilst driving are one of the major causes of distraction some people may argue that using a hands free kit is acceptable however it is still a distraction.

Other causes of distraction include putting make-up on or changing a CD.

Drunk Driving/under the influence

Drink Driving is another big cause for accidents and no matter how many times you see the Don’t Drink and Drive campaigns on the TV there are still some drivers that will take the chance whether it is when they leave the pub or in the morning.

A drink driving conviction will not only get you a criminal record it could ultimately result in a prison sentence, loss of job, strain on personal relationships and higher insurance costs.

Reckless Driving

Although reckless driving could be included in speeding, there are a number of drivers that will drive within the speed limit but still cause accidents.

There appears to be a growing number of drivers on our roads that do not pay attention to what is going on around them, or would prefer to make last minute turns without letting other road users or pedestrians know their intentions to turn.

Rain

Slippery roads caused by rain is another big cause of accidents generally because some drivers do not know that the stopping distances are increased or because they have not checked the tyre tread for a while.

Running Red Lights

No matter where you go you will always see drivers that try to beat a red light and most of them fail which results in them hitting other road users or pedestrian’s that are crossing the road.

Teenage Drivers

Another major cause of road accidents are teenage drivers that have just passed their tests, it is even worse if a couple of friends have passed their test at the same time and decide to start racing each other at night.

Some teenagers think that passing their test means that they have just been given a licence to speed or show off to their mates.
